The main value of Mailsplit revolves around Splitters. You might have never heard of this word before, because simply it’s the new way to do emailing. In this article, we’ll explain to you: what’s a Splitter? What are its benefits? And how can you use a Splitter to avoid landing in spam?

The traditional method:

Let’s start with something more familiar. Say, you want to start sending email campaigns. You create a mailbox under a domain name, connect your mailbox to an emailing tool, and start sending emails. This traditional method is quite risky. The more emails you send the more likely you are to land in spam. High email volumes aren’t friends with spam filters, and you’re putting all your eggs in one basket. If the one mailbox runs into issues, creating a new mailbox and bringing it back to the same email volume level is a hassle. How can you avoid starting from zero? How can you avoid all these risks?

The Mailsplit method:

The best tested solution to send emails to inboxes at scale is creating multiple mailboxes and dispatching your email volumes on them. In other words, you’ll split your email volumes into multiple mailboxes: thus the name a Splitter. How to set up your Splitter?

Using a Splitter is one of the ways to improve your deliverability with Mailsplit. A Splitter is like merging multiple mailboxes into one mailbox, which becomes your main email sender. You’ll simply connect your mailboxes to it, then connect your Splitter to an emailing tool, and you’re good to send your campaigns. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to set up and manage your Splitter. Here are the steps you’ll need to follow:

Step 1: Create your Splitter

To create your Splitter, you can login to Mailsplit, and click on the Splitters tab, then click on “Add Splitter”. You can name the Splitter however you want.

Info box: The Reply-to address refers to one of your email addresses in which you want to receive all your campaign replies. You can set it up when creating your Splitter, or later on in your Splitter Settings (see Step 4).

Step 2: Manage Mailboxes inside a Splitter

Once you create a Splitter, you can add your Mailboxes to it by clicking on the “Add a Mailbox” button. You can either choose a Mailbox that is already connected to Mailsplit from the dropdown menu, or you can add a new Mailbox by clicking on “add a new Mailbox”, then entering your SMTP settings. A Splitter is your way to improve your deliverability. It might be an unfamiliar concept to you, but we designed it in a way that is intuitive and easy to use. In this article, I’ll go through the main components of a Splitter, so that you can get familiar with the concept and easily use it.

A Splitter has mainly 5 simple components, which are usual tools used in emailing:

Mailboxes:

The first component of a Splitter is Mailboxes. Mailboxes are your casual email accounts. They can be from any email provider you’re using (Google, Office365, Sendgrid…).

You’ll essentially link as many mailboxes as you want to a Splitter. The good thing about it is that you can link Mailboxes from multiple email providers to the same Splitter. The Splitter will merge all the Mailboxes into one sender. But, you don’t have to worry about this part, it’s done automatically. Once you have your Splitter with a number of Mailboxes, you’re ready to use it for your emailing campaigns. How? Using the Splitter’s SMTP.

SMTP: What’s a Splitter’s SMTP?

Now that you have a Splitter ready, you’ll need to start sending emails with it. You’ll simply need to go to your emailing tool, and replace the current sending email with your Splitter. This is where the Splitter SMTP comes into play.

What if I told you that you, as a domain owner, are not allowed to send emails from your domain. Yes, even if you own the domain, your sent emails can be seen as spam. You need to tell the world that the one sending emails from the domain is actually you, and not someone else impersonating you. This is exactly the purpose of your Domain security records: otherwise known as SPF, DKIM and DMARC records.

By using SPF, DKIM and DMARC, you make it easier for an email recipient to check if your emails were legitimately sent from you, the domain owner, or from someone who was authorized to send it. In this article, I’ll explain to you what SPF, DKIM and DMARC are, and why they are important for your email deliverability.

First, what’s the relationship between Domain security records and email deliverability (spam)?

We often think of an email address as public information. Technically, it’s true, you can send an email to any mailbox in the world. There is nothing stopping you from sending an email to your most beloved celebrity without any hurdles.

At the same time, email is a trusted communication channel, which makes it accessible for scammers (remember the Nigerian prince scam email). So, email providers have a duty of protecting their users. They needed a way to make mailboxes less accessible for scammers.

How to check your Domain Security?

Setting up your DNS records is an important step in securing your domain, and avoiding spam. It’s a fairly technical task, however Mailsplit enables you to set it up with just a copy paste.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to check your domain security, and how to set it up. Basically, there are 3 main DNS records that are needed for your email setup: SPF, DMARC, and DKIM.

Checking your SPF and DMARC:

If you want to check your records, you’ll need to navigate to your Domains tab, click on your domain, then click on Check button.

Once you click on the button, Mailsplit checks your DNS records, then compares your records with your email setup inside Mailsplit.

|| Remark: Mailsplit can’t detect email providers outside the app. If you’re using an email provider outside Mailsplit, you should add it to your DNS record.

If the setup is correct, the status will be ${color}#00ff00. In this case, you don’t need to do anything. You can skip to the DKIM part below, which is different.
